What is the sound-goods Audio Splitter?

The sound-goods Audio Splitter is a free browser-based tool that divides a single audio file into multiple separate parts — with no upload, no account, and no installation. Processing runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API and lamejs. Your audio file never leaves your device.

Unlike most tools that only split into equal chunks, sound-goods gives you three distinct split modes: Equal Parts (divide evenly by count), Manual Markers (click the waveform to place exact split points), and By Duration (auto-split every N seconds). Each segment shows a mini waveform preview and a Play button so you can hear the result before downloading.

How splitting works: The original audio buffer is decoded once into raw PCM samples. Each split point defines a start and end sample index. The tool slices the buffer at those indices, creating sub-buffers for each segment. Each sub-buffer is independently encoded to 192kbps MP3 using lamejs and made available for download. No data is sent to a server at any point.

Three ways to split — step by step

Drop your audio file
Drag and drop an MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, or M4A file onto the tool above. The waveform renders immediately. Nothing is uploaded.
Choose your split mode
Equal Parts — use the slider to set how many segments you want (2–20). Each segment will be the same duration. Manual Markers — click anywhere on the waveform to place a split point. Add as many as you need. By Duration — enter a duration in seconds; the tool auto-calculates how many segments result.
Click Split Audio
The tool encodes each segment as a separate 192kbps MP3. A row appears for each segment showing a mini waveform, the time range, and duration.
Preview and download
Click Play on any segment to hear it before downloading. Then click Download on individual segments you want, or Download All to save every segment at once.

Common use cases

Splitting a podcast into chapters

Record your full podcast in one take, then use Manual Markers mode to place split points at the start of each chapter or topic. Preview each segment, adjust markers if a split is slightly off, then download the individual chapter files ready for upload to your podcast host.

Dividing a lecture or webinar recording

Use By Duration mode to split a 2-hour lecture into 15-minute segments. Students can download only the sections they need, and the files are small enough to share via email or cloud storage without compression.

Splitting a band rehearsal by song

Record a full rehearsal session and use Manual Markers to place split points between songs. Each song becomes an individual file, named Part 1, Part 2, etc., ready to share with bandmates for review.

Breaking up an audiobook chapter

Audiobook narrators who record long chapters in one session can split them into 10–15 minute segments for easier review, editing, or upload to platforms with file size limits.

Preparing samples for music production

Split a long field recording, drum loop pack, or sample compilation into individual sounds using Manual Markers. Each marker becomes a new file, ready to import into your DAW as a separate sample.

Splitting audio to bypass upload limits

Many platforms limit audio uploads to 25–50MB. Use By Duration mode to split a large file into smaller segments that meet the limit. Because no upload occurs in sound-goods, there is no restriction on the size of the original file you work with.
